Gardens

Let me introduce myself. I'm Randy Hansen the new gardener at reverie Spa. I am finishing out my first growing season here at reverie as replacement gardener for Daniel Fagerstrom who developed the gardens.

I come to reverie after- 10 years as a middle school science teacher in Michigan City and 23 years as an elementary teacher, which is where I first taught with Beth.

I find it exciting that after 30 years we are back teaching together, this time through the Spa and gardens at Reverie.

I have been involved in gardening and growing for 40 years in some fashion - which here at reverie makes me older than the dirt.

My home garden " Over the Rainbow" ( my daughter went through an "OZ" phase) produces seasonally much of what we eat while providing us with onions, garlic, potatoes, and squash for storage and fruit and vegetables for canning and freezing.

Both gardens, Over the Rainbow and Reverie, are bio-dynamic and bio- intense. Which to me simply means that we put back into the ground more than we take out, we use "homegrown" compost to do it, and we plant when it is the time to plant.

We also grow a lot of food in a small space.

I look forward to the coming years at reverie as we continue to produce more and better. The addition of 12 apple trees and over 100 sq. ft. of strawberry bed- plus the new rhubarb and asparagus beds should give Mary and the reverie kitchen even more ways to dazzle us with her skill.

I hope to see you at reverie and would enjoy giving you a tour and introduction to our garde ns. See you soon. Enjoy the day.
